Wedding Woes

*** 6 *** (and others with gestational diabeetus)

You had the diabeetus when you were KU, right?  Did they put you on ridiculous levels of vitamin D?

Just curious.  I had it with Wooz, so this was on my list of questions at my last appointment.  According to Dr. Nice, there is new research that shows that 4000 IU can prevent it, so that's what I'm on now.  Just curious as to whether you did this and if it worked.  (On the latter, I think the answer is no, because I'm pretty sure you had it through all 3?)  It's like the upper safe limit of what a human being should take, so whatever.

Dr. Nice is my new favorite--he wasn't there when I was pregnant with the Woozle, I just met him recently.  But tomorrow I have to see Dr. Asshat for my Ultrascreen, since the timing is important and he was the only one available.  (Probably because he's an asshat and no one wants to see him.)  He used to be my primary, until he made fun of me in labor for getting on DH's ass about the counting.  DH had ONE thing to do when I was in active labor:  count to ten while I was pushing.  And in case Wooz's birth story isn't fresh in everyone's mind, effing DH kept getting distracted somewhere between 5 and 7.  He'd start out fine, and then the second the L&D nurse or my doctor said so much as "good job" or "keep going, almost done" he'd quit counting and start cheerleading.  I don't need a cheerleader, motherfvkker, I need someone to keep track of when I reach 10 and can stop pushing.  So I basically told him to stop talking and keep counting, and Dr. Asshat thought it was hilarious--kept bringing it up, even when he was stitching me up.  I seriously haven't seen him since--tomorrow will be interesting.

  • dr. asshat must have some gooood malpractice insurance if he can keep acting like that.

when my labor went south on dr. poppins jr, i never saw her again, even for follow-ups.  it made me wonder if they were keeping us apart intentionally in case they thought i had an itchy lawsuit finger.

  • I had it with all 3 and it seemed to get progressively worse.  I have not heard that VitD can help, but I have read age can increase risk.  The GD never really bothered me.  I was worst with Max and did end up on drugs, but that was only because I was borderline and she took a better safe than sorry approach.

I hope Dr. Asshat isn't so asshatty tomorrow.  Good luck.
  • I had GD, but that was almost 5 years ago now, so while I have never heard of the Vitamin D thing, that doesn't mean much.  Since it's new, you might want to do your own research/googling to make sure you want to do it.  You don't have to listen to your doctor.
  • I don't remember that story, Heff.  I can't say I didn't laugh at little at the fact that Mr. Heff would get distracted between 5 and 7.   I hope someone kicks Dr. Asshat in the face one day for making fun of them while they're in labor.   WTF?

That does remind me that there was one nurse that said I didn't have it that bad since I "only pushed" for 2 hours after 27-ish hours of labor (and a worn off epi).  That pissed me off.  I get that you see much longer labors/pushing, but roll your eyes/talk smack about me at the nurses station.

  • Also, feel free to bring up Dr. Asshat's asshatiness to him.  Don't be so passive.
  • I hadn't heard that about the vitamin d.  Interesting.

I was put on glyburide to bring my fasting number down.  It was supposed to be somewhere in the 90s (can't remember exactly) and before I started the meds it was always above 100.  All my other numbers were great, it was just that dang fasting number.  My doc had me try several things before going to the meds, but nothing worked.

  • I actually just had my GD test yesterday. I didn't have it with Baby A, but for some reason I'm more nervous that I may actually have it with this one.

    We'll see.

That was like the first thing I did, but thanks.  I actually downloaded the study he referenced at work, where we have subscriptions to publications that aren't open access.

Anyway, just curious about others' experience, but it seems like this is pretty new so I'll keep my fingers crossed.  (And in the mean time, keep eating my stupid protein bars instead of the Raisinets that 2 seems to prefer.)
